What Are the Potential Side Effects of Rhinoplasty Surgery?

August 24, 2023

A “nose job,” or rhinoplasty, is a surgery that changes the shape of your nose. It’s popular for both looks and health needs alike. With better surgical methods now, it has become more reliable than ever before.

But still, like any other operation out there—it isn’t free from risks. So if you’re thinking about getting one yourself—you should know what could go right as well as wrong.

Immediate Postoperative Side Effects

Right after a nose job, patients will feel some changes due to the body’s healing process. Swelling and bruising near the eyes and nose are common in everyone. How long these last can shift from one person to another—it also depends on how the surgery was done. Some may get bloody noses, stuffy feelings, or plain discomfort too!

To better handle this phase right post-surgery, do what your surgeon tells you. You might need cold packs at hand for swelling relief, along with painkillers if it hurts. Take care of sleeping high up—not flat—to help decrease that slight puffiness.

Changes in Sensation

After getting a nose job, one common thing you might feel is numbness. This usually happens around the tip of your nose. As your nerves heal and grow again, there may be some tingling or less feeling than usual in that area.

But don’t stress! Most often, it goes away on its own over weeks or sometimes months, too—leaving everything back to normal! It’s rare, but just so you know, a few people do have this going for longer, but they are more an odd case out, not something typical.

Cosmetic Concerns

The main aim of a nose job is to get the look you want. But sometimes, it might not turn out exactly how you hoped. Reasons could be crooked shape, tiny bumps or dents appearing on your skin, or even scars! Keep in mind that small flaws often become less clear as your body heals, and swelling goes down with time.

If you’re still unhappy about something after several months post-surgery, just see what’s up by going back to talk things over again with your surgeon. It may be they can do another procedure for fixing that issue.

Long-Term Functional Concerns

A nose job isn’t just about looks—it can sometimes mess with how well you breathe too. If it’s harder to get air through your nostrils, this could be from swelling inside, scars, or changes done to the shape of your nose itself.

It’s vital that if you’re struggling to catch your breath, you tell your surgeon ASAP. They’ll typically have ways around these things! And in a few instances, another surgery might need sorting those problems out for good.

Conclusion

Nose jobs can boost both how you look and function. But remember, it does have its share of possible hiccups too! To cut down risks and bump up the odds of a happy ending in your favor, you need to fill yourself with info first before picking an ace surgeon who knows their stuff inside out.
