How To Use Technology as a Teacher

May 9, 2023

There is no doubt that we’re living during a time when technology is advancing at a pace that’s hard to keep up with. However, it’s crucial for teachers to try to stay as up to date as possible because the more technology they can use, the easier it will be to teach.

Remember that this kind of tech is what the children in your classroom have grown up with; it’s all they’ve ever known. It might be a concept that you need to learn more about, but it’s what your students are going to expect, and it’s a great way to help them engage more in an environment they are comfortable in.

With that in mind, here are some great ways to use technology as a teacher.

Use Multimedia in Lessons

In the past, teachers would write on a blackboard and the children would copy the information down. They would use textbooks to impart information, and sometimes those textbooks would be many years old with out-of-date information in them. As you can see, although this was the traditional way of teaching, it wasn’t necessarily helpful.

Today it is very different, and thanks to excellent technology for educators, teachers are able to incorporate multimedia into their lessons—ensuring not just engagement but the provision of the most up-to-date information.

You can create an entire lesson that combines speaking, videos, music, audio clips, and even interactive websites to make the subject a lot more interesting and accessible to everyone in the classroom.

Use Online Learning Platforms

There are specific online learning platforms that were enhanced and rolled out during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that as many children as possible were able to continue their education—even if they had to be at home to do it. These are still useful, even though most students have returned to the classroom, and teachers can certainly benefit from learning how to use them.

Using these platforms, you can set homework (and grade it), communicate with students (and parents), and upload lesson materials to help students learn more and give them everything they need when it comes to revising for tests.

Implement Blended Learning

If you’re not sure what blended learning is, don’t worry—it’s an idea that is just coming into its own, but that can potentially revolutionize the way teaching and learning are done. Blended learning is a combination of classroom-based lessons and online ones, and it can be used in a number of different ways.

You might use online resources to supplement your classroom teaching, for example; or you might create an entire lesson online in advance if you are going to be away from the classroom for any reason. You can set this as homework and then discuss it in class at a later date.

One of the benefits of blended learning is that students can work on some aspects of their schooling at their own pace, and as their teacher, you can keep up with their progress. This will help you identify where help might be needed before it becomes stressful for the student. Learning becomes a much more personal experience, which makes it more enjoyable and less of a challenge.
