5 Family Friendly Activities in Puglia

June 27, 2022

Puglia is a southern area in Italy. It is noted for its whitewashed hill towns, centuries-old farms, and hundreds of kilometers of Mediterranean shoreline. Bari, the capital, is a bustling port and university town, while Lecce, noted for its baroque architecture, is dubbed “the Florence of the South.”

The heel of Italy’s boot, a dichotomy of flat, sandy coastal areas and hilly interiors, dotted with olive trees. Puglia is flanked by both the Adriatic and Ionian seas. A place where the simple life reigns supreme; nonetheless, it is generally untrampled by foreign tourists.

  • Stay in your Puglia villa with the whole family! Luxury private villas big enough for everyone for a reasonable price. Amazing sea views, sprawling countryside and luxurious pools to make you feel like Italian royalty. The locations of these stately homes are newsworthy to say the least. With enough bed rooms for everyone it’s bound to be a quiet and peaceful holiday.

  • Gargano is a peninsula that stretches from northern Puglia into the Adriatic Sea. It’s a popular summer spot for Italians, but in the off season you can have the beaches, forests, and hill towns to yourself. It is one of Puglia’s most attractive spots for families who like nature and swimming. The waters are calm and shallow. Great for small children to experience the incredible blue sea.

  • Gargano National Park is known for its gorgeous coastal scenery and exquisite caric white rocks. If you have older children, there are many delightful adventures here to do on foot or by bike. There are plenty of excellent beaches and boat excursions too. The best part is, aside from some seaside resorts, most of the park is completely unspoilt.

  • Visit the Paleontology Museum of San Marco in Lamis to view authentic dinosaur footprints, bones and more. You can come across creatures, in real size, that lived on this territory 120 million years ago. This clean and well kept park is exceptionally well managed. A great way to spend a day outdoors with the kids and learn something too!

  • When you need to get away from the kiddy rides and mindless songs but still need to entertain the youngsters then admire The Santuario di San Michele al’Agelo, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Teaching the children the value of history and that, what came before us influences what we are now, can be priceless. Spend a day learning Italian culture from many years ago and take in some beautiful architecture too. Stroll around the ancient town and try the local food. Then head back to your villa for some well needed rest.
